§ 10-2. Preparation and storage of refuse.

  • (a)

    Separation of refuse. Garbage, household trash and garden and yard trash shall each be placed and maintained in separate containers, unless mechanical containers are used.

    (b)

    Preparation of refuse.

    (1)

    Garbage: Garbage shall be drained and wrapped in paper or plastic. Cans and glass shall not protrude from wrappings.

    (2)

    Household trash: All household trash such as papers, magazines and periodicals shall be bundled and tied or placed in receptacles. Building material must be free of all nails, metal and similar dangerous protrusions. Small masonry items shall be placed in heavy duty receptacles.

    (3)

    Garden and yard trash: Garden and yard trash, except tree limbs and similar items, shall be placed in garbage receptacles on the owner's or lessee's property at the pickup location prior to scheduled pickup date. The use of plastic bags is prohibited. Such refuse as tree limbs, palm fronds and tree trunks need not be placed in receptacles, however they shall be not larger than twelve (12) inches in diameter, four (4) feet in length and not weigh more than fifty (50) pounds.

    (4)

    Commercial trash: Commercial trash shall be placed in receptacles, mechanical containers or located at the pickup location on the owner or lessee's property.

    (5)

    Weight and size limitation: No gross receptacle/container weight or individual piece of trash/refuse shall exceed sixty (60) pounds each or be greater than four (4) feet in length and two and one-half (2½) feet in width. For removal of household or commercial trash greater in size or weight, contact city hall.
