§ 22-32. Road sub-base and base replacement requirements.

  • These are minimum standards that must be followed:

    (1)

    Sub-base:

    a.

    Prior to installation of base material, soft, spongy mucky or rocky material shall be removed. Sufficient stabilizing material shall be cut in to achieve a Florida Bearing Value (FBV) in excess of seventy-five (75) pounds per square inch (psi) or limerock bearing ratio (LBR) greater than forty (40) pounds at a minimum density of ninety-eight (98) per cent of a maximum density as defined and measured in ASSHTO T-180 (Modified Proctor), to a six-inch minimum depth.

    b.

    Materials are to be placed at a depth of twelve (12) inches and compacted in twelve-inch layers.

    c.

    Care should be taken to compact material at the pipe haunches where applicable.

    (2)

    Rock base:

    a.

    Materials used are to be crushed lime rock or crushed coquina rock meeting FDOT specifications.

    b.

    Materials are to be compacted in two (2) equal lifts to a ninety-eight (98) per cent density with a LBR of 100.

    c.

    Materials are to be placed and cut according to open road cut repair details and typical road section.

    (3)

    Concrete base (upon approval by the City of Cocoa Beach):

    a.

    Materials used are to be three thousand (3,000) pounds per square inch (psi) grade concrete.

    b.

    Materials are to be placed and cut according to open road cut repair details and typical road section.
