§ 6-65. Spill-over lighting standards for beachfront property.

  • Lights illuminating buildings or associated grounds for decorative or recreation purposes shall be shielded or screened in accordance with City of Cocoa Beach Land Development Code Chapter IV, Article XI, or turned off during nighttime hours (dusk to dawn) during the period of May 1 to October 31 of each year. Lights illuminating dune crosswalks of any areas oceanward of the dune line shall be installed in accordance with City of Cocoa Beach Land Development Code Chapter IV, Article XI, and turned off after 11:00 p.m. during the period of May 1 to October 31 of each year. Whenever possible, streetlights shall be located so that the bulk of their illumination will travel away from the beach. These lights shall be equipped with shades or shields that will prevent backlighting and render them not visible from the beach.
